VENTURI Formula E Team once again saw both its cars finish in the top 10, as Tom DILLMANN and Maro ENGEL gave another demonstration of the team’s potential by finishing in 4th and 8th place respectively.

In qualifying, Maro ENGEL went out in group n°3 and posted the 8th fastest time. Teammate Tom DILLMANN, running in group n°4, saw his flying lap slightly disrupted and qualified in 9th.

Both VENTURI Formula E Team drivers got off to a good start in the race itself, with Tom DILLMANN immediately snatching three places to jump into 6th, and Maro ENGEL safely coming through a first corner collision, albeit one that cost him a place as he slipped back into 9th.

In the space of five laps, Tom DILLMANN continued his impressive charge up the field and soon found himself in 3rd position. Meanwhile, Maro ENGEL eased up two places himself into 7th.

With a third of the race gone, Tom DILLMANN – still 3rd – was battling to hold off reigning champion DI GRASSI, while Maro ENGEL continued to make progress, passing Nicolas PROST for 6th place.

Eventually, DILLMANN opted not to push his luck in his battle with DI GRASSI, who passed him to take 3rd place from the VENTURI Formula E Team driver. Maro ENGEL was forced to ease off due to high battery temperatures, and gradually dropped back down to 11th by the half-way point and the traditional car swap.

DILLMANN and ENGEL, along with their engineers and mechanics, ensured both drivers pitted to perfection with Tom DILLMANN rejoining the race in 4th and Maro ENGEL 10th. The German found himself with the chance to put the pressure on Sam BIRD and duly passed him to take 9th place, just before a Full Course Yellow followed by a safety car. When the safety car came in, DILLMANN successfully held onto 4th place, while ENGEL won his duel with PROST in style to finish 8th.

Final race position of the VENTURI Formula E Team drivers: Tom DILLMANN 4th, Maro ENGEL 8th.

“I’m very happy for the team and for Tom. For me, in the first half of the race I had to look after the high battery temperature. That’s why I lost a few places. The second car worked really well. I took advantage of the restart, took my chances and moved up the order. We’re scoring points again and I’m very pleased. Hopefully we can do even better on Sunday.”, Maro ENGEL, VENTURI Formula E Team driver.

“I’m very satisfied. Congratulations to the team on a great job. We took the time to prepare for this weekend in New York, especially in the simulator. I felt very comfortable today. I knew that at the start of the race, I needed to get past the cars in front of me. I was quicker than them, but we have similar energy consumption. I knew if I could pass them I could save time with clean air in my radiators. It worked.”, Tom DILLMANN, VENTURI Formula E Team driver.

“Having both cars in the top 10 is a fantastic result. Special mention to Tom, as this was only his second Formula E race of the season. Well done also to Maro, who had an eventful race. We’ll take positive energy from this result and get back to work to prepare for Sunday’s race. That’s the thing about this discipline: it all starts over again. We’ll do our best to get another good result.”, Susie WOLFF, Team Principal of VENTURI Formula E Team.

The final race of the season will take place in New York today, on Sunday 15 July.
