MARRAKESH E-PRIX: VENTURI KEEN TO BUILD ON GOOD START
Monaco, January 10th, 2018
Monaco’s VENTURI Formula E team will be in Marrakesh (Morocco) this weekend for the third E-Prix of the season. Following its fine performance in Hong Kong, the team has pulled out all the stops as it looks to keep the successful start going.
The VENTURI Formula E team found itself back on the podium five weeks ago. In the Sunday race, Edoardo MORTARA’s second place finish and Maro ENGEL’s fine comeback drive (which saw him gain 7 places) took the motivation up another notch. Since then, and after a short winter break, the feeling in VENTURI Monaco’s headquarter is more positive than ever.
“On the opening weekend, we showed that we have the potential. To maintain the momentum, we have been working closely with Edoardo and Maro. I believe in my team and our chances of achieving good results”, Gildo PASTOR, President of VENTURI FORMULA E TEAM.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS
The VENTURI Formula E team arrives in Marrakesh lying 4th in the overall rankings. The aim in Morocco will be to consolidate and perhaps even improve that position. To that end, Edoardo MORTARA and Maro ENGEL have clocked up hundreds of laps in the simulator, accompanied by the VENTURI Formula E team’s engineers. A range of different energy strategy scenarios have been tested, with Marrakesh among the circuits where the cars spend longest at full throttle and maximum load.
“We’ll be trying to confirm our competitiveness by exploiting the car’s capabilities to the full. We could have taken even more points in Hong-Kong. So more than ever, the aim now is to get as high up the field as we can”, Maro ENGEL, VENTURI FORMULA E TEAM .driver
“Hopefully we’ll be among the front-runners again in Marrakesh. Obviously it will be difficult as there are plenty of drivers capable of achieving good results. I think we should be able to cause an upset”, Edoardo MORTARA, VENTURI FORMULA E TEAM driver.
On Sunday 14 January, the day after the race, the team will be staying in Marrakesh with the two Formula E rookies, Morocco’s Michaël BENYAHIA and Britain’s Gary PAFFETT.
Michaël BENYAHIA is the youngest driver registered for the Rookie Test. He has been with the VENTURI team for four months. Most of his work is done in the simulator, where he prepares for races with the engineering crew, but Michaël also attends Formula E race meetings to hone his knowledge of the discipline. He will be driving the VENTURI car for the second time, having first taken the wheel in Valencia (Spain) in October 2017.
Gary PAFFETT is a well-known name in motor sport, particularly thanks to his exploits in the German DTM championship. He will be taking part in this day of tests as part of a collaboration between HWA AG and the VENTURI Formula E team, with the Monegasque outfit offering the German team the chance to continue developing their expertise in the discipline.
