Tricky track conditions and multiple collisions at the Parisian Circuit des Invalides led to an extremely challenging race for VENTURI Formula E Team drivers, Felipe MASSA and Edoardo MORTARA. Despite a strong qualifying session which saw MASSA place 4th on the grid with his team mate in 10th, MASSA ended the race in 9th place whist MORTARA was unable to cross the finish line after an incident involving Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s, Alexander LYNN, on lap 23 put him into the wall and out of the race.

The inclement weather wrecked havoc throughout race day with both drivers struggling with a dirty track caused by high winds during Qualifying and extremely low grip and low visibility during the race due to the high volume of water on the track.
Despite the unpredictable and rapidly changing weather, Paris Formula E fans showed their huge support for the sport as they packed into the sold-out Grandstands surrounding the 1.92km city centre track where the Monegasque team contested the eighth round 2018-2019 Formula E Championship.
Pace and reliability on both VENTURI VFE-05 looked strong throughout the practice sessions, qualifying and the race but with treacherous track conditions and three Full Course Yellow periods reducing the speed to just 50kph during the race, the latest developments to the car weren’t fully put to the test.
MASSA’s 9th place means two more championship points for the team, currently in sixth place in the team standings as they head back to their Monaco HQ to prepare for their home E-Prix, the 2019 Monaco E-Prix on Saturday 11th May.

“My Qualifying was not ideal but my starting grid position was still looking okay for the race. I started well climbing through the pack from tenth to seventh I made a mistake trying to overtake [Maximilian] GÜNTHER [GEOX Dragon], putting the front of the car in the wall. Towards the end of the race, I had more contact with [Alex] LYNN as I tried to overtake him on turn 13 – I think I was being a little optimistic and I don’t think he saw me coming – this incident ended my race.”
Edoardo MORTARA, VENTURI Formula E Team driver
“It was a very difficult day, the conditions made it very tricky – but the biggest problem I had was that in the wet, and for whatever reason, a lot of water was coming in from the middle of my visor which massively affected my visibility. That’s never happened before in my life! I had to race with an open visor the whole time so I couldn’t show my true pace in the rain. That destroyed my chances as I had to slow my pace and I even span once, which lost me many positions. In the end, it’s a few points for ninth but it could have been top five. The car was great in the dry – in the rain it was just about staying on the track.”
Felipe MASSA, VENTURI Formula E Team driver
“It was a very eventful race, with difficult track conditions thanks to the intermittent heavy rain and hail showers. It’s a tough one for us to swallow, losing a strong double-points-scoring finish through incidents – especially after Felipe’s strong Qualifying and a good start to the race for both drivers. But in these kind of conditions, anything can happen. Anyway, we move forward and concentrate on the elements we can control, there’s plenty to do ahead of our home race in Monaco in two weeks.”
Susie WOLFF, VENTURI Formula E Team Principal

A pioneer in the field of electromobility since 2000, Monaco-based VENTURI President, Gildo PASTOR was an early supporter of Alejandro AGAG – FIA Formula E CEO – when he began laying the foundations for what would become the FIA Formula E World Championship. Drawing on his expertise in the field, the Monegasque innovator quickly threw his support behind the fledgling Formula E project and decided to create the VENTURI Formula E Team which has competed in every season since the championship premiered in 2014.
In 2015, VENTURI became an Formula E FIA-approved manufacturer. Today VENTURI supplies full powertrain systems for the VENTURI Formula E and HWA AG teams.
In 2018, Susie WOLFF was appointed Team Principal of VENTURI Formula E Team.
