MEXICO E-PRIX: VENTURI FORMULA E TEAM SET TO BUILD ON RECENT SUCCESS

VENTURI Formula E Team is prepped for the fourth leg of the 2018-2019 Formula E Championship on Saturday, 16 February. Following Edoardo MORTARA’s 4th place finish at the last race in Santiago, Chile, the Monegasque team heads to Mexico determined to build on its recent success.

THE AUTODROMO HERMANOS RODRIGUEZ CHALLENGE

Once again this year, the Mexican leg of the Formula E calendar will take place on the famous Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. One section of the 2.093km track, Foro Sol, passes in front of a former baseball stadium’s impressive grandstands. At that part of the circuit, between bends 8 and 9, the drivers will have the option of activating “attack mode”, giving them access to an extra 25kW burst of power during the race.

While the stadium section is most popular with spectators, it is also the slowest section of the notorious quick track. In addition, Mexico City has the highest altitude of the locations visited by the Formula E Championship. At 2,285m above sea level, the cars will have less downforce, while cooling will also be sub-optimal so the track presents some unique challenges and opportunities that could level the playing field.

CONSOLIDATING PROGRESS

As demonstrated by Edoardo MORTARA’s 4th place in the previous race in the Chilean capital of Santiago, the VENTURI VFE-05 has the speed to match its reliability. Prior to being clipped by a rival in that same race, Felipe MASSA was also performing impressively with an efficient car showcasing improved performance.

VENTURI Formula E Team will be making further improvements to a solid technical base, starting in the shakedown scheduled for 9.30 pm (GMT) on Friday evening.

QUOTES

“Hopefully we can build on our strong result in Santiago, especially as we will be arriving in Mexico with some additional improvements. I’ll be looking to do well in qualifying and then be amongst the front-runners in the race.”
Edoardo MORTARA, VENTURI Formula E Team driver

“I like Mexico a lot. The Mexican people have always supported me, and that makes me particularly proud. Although I’ve raced on this circuit before, the track configuration will be new to me as the FE layout is very different from the one I know. From a sporting point of view, things didn’t go my way in the last race, but I really hope that this time out I’ll be able to get a good result.”
Felipe MASSA, VENTURI Formula E Team driver

“We definitely want to continue the momentum from the last race in Santiago where we were took home some well earned points. The team has worked hard in the gap between the races and we are making steady improvements, but we know that we have to prepare for the unexpected in Mexico. Our clear goal is another points finish this weekend and an action packed race for the fans.”
Susie WOLFF, VENTURI Formula E Team Principal

Free practice, qualifying and the race itself will take place over the course of a single day, Saturday 16 February 2019. To keep up with all the action, follow VENTURI Formula E Team on Twitter @VenturiFE.
