VENTURI FORMULA E TEAM BACK ON THE PODIUM
Hong-Kong, December 3rd, 2017
After a good race on Saturday, Monaco’s VENTURI Formula E team was on the podium on Sunday thanks to Edoardo MORTARA’s 2nd place finish.
FINE START IN QUALIFYING
Edoardo MORTARA got the ball rolling in style by posting the second-fastest time in the qualifying round, earning an invitation to take part in the Super Pole as one of the top five qualifiers. Edoardo finished 3rd in the shoot-out, and after Mitch EVANS (Jaguar) picked up a penalty, the VENTURI driver was promoted to 2nd place. His teammate Maro ENGEL had to contend with brake issues and qualified in 15th.
EDOARDO MORTARA WITH AN ALMOST FLAWLESS DRIVE
After a mistake from pole man Felix ROSENQVIST, Edoardo MORTARA snatched the lead on the opening lap, and produced a commanding drive to hold it until the last few minutes. Managing his energy expertly and controlling the race, it was a hugely impressive display from Edoardo that drew admiration from observers. In the history of Formula E, rarely (dare we say “never”?) has a driver so new to the discipline shown such mastery. Edoardo made just one slip-up in the entire race, suffering a spin with two laps to go that cost him two places. The VENTURI driver finally came home in 3rd, and following the disqualification of Daniel ABT (Audi Sport), Edoardo was moved up to 2nd place.
STUNNING COMEBACK BY MARO ENGEL
Maro ENGEL made an excellent start, jumping two places inside the first few minutes, before flying up the field and going wheel-to-wheel with Nicolas PROST in a duel that lasted several laps. By the midway point, Maro was up to 9th. Like his teammate, he showed great precision to manage his available power perfectly and crossed the finishing line in 8th place. After the disqualification for Audi Sport (see above), Maro ENGEL’s final placing was 7th.
VENTURI BACK ON THE PODIUM
The team owned by Gildo PASTOR had not seen one of its drivers on the podium since Season 2 (Long Beach, USA, back in April 2016). Now, after some difficult close season testing, VENTURI is proudly reaping the rewards of its efforts. The car is quick and reliable. The drivers are confirming the high hopes placed in them. Currently 4th in the standings, the independent VENTURI Formula E team has shown it is capable of going toe to toe with the major constructors. There’s everything to play for, starting with the next race in Marrakesh on the second weekend in January.
